Looking Down
Shadows and Reflections
When taking pictures of shadows and reflections I was mainly looking for things like water and glass because even though a mirror is a reflection it isn't that creative. I didn't get many pictures of shadows because it wasn't really sunny on the day I took them. I did get some good reflections though like the ones in the water and the window.

Over The Shoulder Shots
Taking over the shoulder shots is quite easy because whenever someone is doing something interesting or there was something interesting in front of them I would take a picture from over their shoulder. These pictures didn't really take that long to do because most of the time there are things in front of people to take photos of.

Boogie
|
Vladimir Milivojevich aka Boogie is a street photographer from Serbia. The place where he takes all his photos is Brooklyn, New York. He is known for his documentary and portrait photographs of people on the margins of society. His work has been featured by the New York Times Time magazine, Huffington Post, Huck magazine and some other magazines and documentaries.
He has had five books of photography published. The first, It's All Good (then titled In the Projects), was one of five finalists (not winner) for Best Photography Book of 2006 at the Santa Fe Prize for Photography. |
This is one of many gang related photos of Boogie's. This photo gives us a look into what it's like in the life of a gangster. The guy is stood right in the middle of the shit showing that he is the main subject of the photo. The black and white is the style that Boogie uses in all his photos it gives an effect of what its like for them. The photo hasn't really got any violence in it but it shows that the man is ready for violence because he has two guns. In this photo boogie used a lens that draws us closer to the subject because he is right in the middle of the photo.

What I learnt from the film
I learnt that street photographers behave in a certain way that they take photos of nearly everything that interests them. They improvise all the time because they don't go out planning to take a photo of a certain thing they just take photos of random things but in a certain style. They are very persistent because they could go a whole day and not get a photo that they like but they will try again the next day and the day after that until they get the perfect photo to their standards.
They use small cameras that are very light. They normally use wide angle lenses on their cameras.
Most subjects interest street photography from cafes and shop windows to graffiti and gangs. As long as they can get the perfect photo they are prepared to do it even if it puts them at risk to a point where they are in danger or could get arrested.

Street Photography Questions
- How do street photographers behave? Street photographers behave in a weird way because it’s almost like a mixture of being gentle and rebellious at the same time. They behave like this because they are prepared to do anything to get the perfect photo. However, they behave gently because they never actually want to harm anyone by taking the photos they just want to create art.
- What kind of equipment do they use? They normally use small, light cameras so that they can quickly take a picture even if their camera isn’t out. They normally also have a neck strap so that it can be even faster to take photos because if its in their pocket it would take longer for them to get it out than if its around the neck.
- What kinds of subjects interest them? A lot of street photographers are interested in graffiti. This is probably because graffiti is art and art looks good in photos. Another reason why they would be interested in graffiti is because it is one of the main aspects of street. Everywhere you go you can find graffiti, most of it looks great. Another subject that interests some street photographers is illegal things such as guns, drugs and gangs. This is because you can find illegal things everywhere so it is one of the main representations of street life.
- Why do they like photographing on the street? Street photographers like photographing on the street because anything can happen it gives an exciting feeling because they don’t know what will happen. They could go out one day and everyone will be friendly and they would get a lot of pictures, then the next day they could go out and it would feel like everyone wants to hurt them and they would only get 1 or 2 photos. They love the tense feeling that they have no idea what could happen.
- What are the risks involved with street photography? One of the main risks of street photography is not knowing how people are going to react because one person could be all friendly and love having their picture taken but another person might hate it then become aggressive towards the photographer. Another risk is that something that they do to try and get a photo could be illegal so there is a risk that they could get arrested.
- What makes a successful street photograph? The thing I think makes a successful street photograph is when it actually shows the life of people and when someone emotions are shown in the photograph, not just by the way they look but by the way the photo is taken.
Evaluation

In my opinion I think this is the best photo I took during street photography. This is because you can see the wood very clearly because it is completely in focus, and the background is out of focus. This is because the depth of field is focused on the wood. The shape of the bits of wood are very random because its natural.
