Research was a key aspect of component 1 because we had to discover multiple artists such as Man Ray for rayographs, Lucas Simões for fragments and Bill Armstrong for abstraction. One of my favourite artists that I researched was Boogie who focused on street photography. I enjoyed researching and exploring Boogie and his work because it is extremely interesting because he focuses on the more rough side of peoples lives and areas of the world, especially New York. I also liked exploring Amedeo Liberatoscioli because their work is interesting because they focus on edges with the world of architecture by taking photos of building that have extremely geometric designs and patterns over them.
I have investigated a lot of themes but some of my favourites was street photography, photograms/rayographs and light painting. Street photography was probably the most interesting because there wasn't really a specific way of doing it, it was more of just doing things how you wanted by taking risks and taking pictures of interesting things and explaining why we did it. Another aspect of street photography I enjoyed was the fact that I was free to take photos of things the way i liked to.
I enjoyed photograms/rayographs because I learnt the basics of using the dark room in there and that you don't always need a camera to create a photograph and that the only thing that is ultimately needed is a source of light. Another reason I enjoyed photograms/rayographs was the fact that all the images that I created were all done using objects that I chose so even if someone else didn't know what it was I could explain it to them.
I enjoyed light painting because I learnt that to create a picture it doesn't always happen instantly and that you can do long exposures and play about with light to create interesting photos. I also enjoyed creating patterns with the coloured lights during the long exposures because it looks much more interesting in the final outcome that scribbles over the photo.
During the entirety of being in photography I have learned a lot of new thing ranging from learning techniques to learning how to use new equipment. Some of the main equipment I learnt about is the enlargers and the chemicals used for making things in the dark room. I enjoyed learning about this equipment because before I started photography I didn't even know that they existed and now I know how to create an amazing picture using them.
The first final piece I created was at the end of the photograms/rayographs project. I personally think that it turned out really well considering photograms were a new concept to me and it was the first final piece I had created. If I was to attempt that final piece again I think it would turn out even better because I have developed my knowledge a lot since I created that almost two years ago now. I am also more confident in my ability now so that would help me create a better final piece for the photograms project.
In my most recent project, fragments, I created a final piece that I personally think is the best final piece I have ever created over the duration I have been doing photography. This is because I have had the longest time to think about what I am doing and I was able to develop a lot from my original idea the the final piece. Fragments is definitely the project that I put the most time and effort into and it was worth it because the final piece turned out the exactly the way I wanted it to.
My Final piece for abstraction was also good in my opinion because I managed to implement skills from street photography into it. I did this by taking the photos in a street photography style and then editing them using Photoshop to make them abstract. To make them abstract I put lines and dots on them using vibrant colours such as bright purple, green and red.
In conclusion, through the entirety of component 1 I have learned a lot of new skills and techniques that can be used in many different ways when taking or creating photos. Nearly everything I have learnt will be used at some point in my life while taking photos especially during the street photography project.
